Your babies health

As we are sure you must have read in the press lately about the women that took her 5 month old baby down to the beach last week-end on the hottest day of the year and it got 40% burns on its little body. There has been a national outcry about this and we just feel so angry and upset about it that we felt compelled to also have a word.

We are always trying to offer advice – which costs you absolutely nothing just to read.

It is not just written off of the top of our heads either – but with many years experience as we have a staff of mostly women who have children and grandchildren of their own. So we do have quite a bit of normal knowledge behind us.

There is one fact that has come to light during this terrible saga – and that is you cannot put any kind of sun cream or sun block on a baby under the age of 6 months old as their skin is far to new if you like and thin. They have not yet finished getting all the layers and depth to their bodies skin.

Please, please listen to what is written in the press, in our blogs, god knows how much pain that poor little mite is going through – and what sort of problems that couple have given him during his life.

Even adults can give themselves skin cancer – you are never too young or to old to be stupid!

If you get red, sore and cannot stand clothing on you – or your skin starts to peel, then you have done enough damage that you COULD and that is all we are saying develop skin cancer or other types of cancer for upto the next 10 years of your life.

If you think when your sunburn has cleared up everything is alright now, think again.

You have a long time to wait to see if you are in the clear!

Our advise – for what it is worth, COVER UP IN THE SUN and think white skin is the best!!!

Your babies health

As we are currently in the middle of the hottest heatwave for over 3 years we would like to take a moment to talk to you about how to care for your little one in this sort of weather.

1.. Give them plenty of fluids – this does not mean milk – fruit juice with water.

2..  Keep baby out of direct sunlight and if possible always in the shade, make sure you have a sunhat on them and a parasol.

3..  If you are out and about in the car make sure you have a sun screen down beside them.

4..  Keep clothing to a minimum and put them all cotton.

5..  If they are toddling make sure they have a complete sun block on, nothing less. You are not trying to give your baby a sun tan.

6..  At night if necessary sleep downstairs during the hotest nights, and keep a window open.

These are recommended guide lines only, it takes common sense really to look after your baby in the extreme weather.

Your babies health

It has been mentioned a lot lately in the press. We would also like to take this opportunity to talk to you about the warning the government and health officials are giving everyone about a possible Measles epidemic. This can be a very serious illness for some babies and young children, even resulting in death. Not every child or baby takes these sort of childhood illness lightly.

In recent years a lot of childhood illness have diminished. This is because parents have been following the advice of the professionals and having vaccinations done when they should be. Then we can work on stamping out these horrible problems.

The recent worry is coming about because more and more parents are opting not to have their baby immunisized when they should, or even at all.

Then this is when we will find an epidemic arising which no-one needs.

We would like to confirm what your Doctors and Nurses are telling you… please have your little ones immunisized when they should be at the appropriate periods and then things should go back to being quite. If you have any concerns especially about the MMR jab then just go for one of them at a time. At the moment it would be prudent to go for the measles as this is the one that is worrying the health officials so much.

Your Babies Health

We thought it was about time we had a word about your babies health and jabs. It will not take very long before you develop a sense of when your little one is happy and healthy and when they are not. Teething is a particularly stressful time, as baby is crying most of the day and night. If they get a little cold or seem feverish in any way, keep a close eye on them, give them something like Calpol and if you are in any way unhappy take them off to your doctor immediately.

We strongly advise that you do not leave any temperature, rash, diarrohea or sickness. Always seek medical advice. They go from being fine then not so quickly.

We are not suggesting that you should spend your time worrying about baby, and becoming parents that constantly bother the doctor, however there is a happy medium, and we do not want to advise that you leave things too long either.

Your nurse or doctor will inform you when its the right time for your baby to start having its jabs. You will probably have been given a book or leaflet about this subject anyway. Always get them immunised at the appropriate times.
