Babies Nutrition

At the moment we are all feeling the pinch. Trying to get over Xmas and all the spending we have all been doing lately. Bills arriving on the mat that we don’t particularly want to see but have to face it is hard on everyone during the months of January and February most years, but it seems particularly hard this year.

Everyone is scouring round the sales and we don’t blame them for a minute, why not try and save some money where you can…

The one place that you should not cut down on too much is food for both you and your little one. A dear friend of mine once said to me your health is your wealth and that is so ery true. Make sure you are getting a balanced diet. 3 square meals a day etc. and of course baby and children come first. They must get all the goodness they need as they are growing and developing and they only get the chance to do this once in their entire lives, so you cannot take short cuts with their health and nourishment.

Organic food is best – but whatever you decide to give them make sure they are getting the best that you can do for them. Their little bones will only develop and grow once – so they need all the calcium and vitamins possible to make sure their little bodies grow and develop as strongly as possible – this is one area where we personally consider you cannot take any short cuts. Don’t forget about your health either, look after you to.

At this time of the year we are looking forward to eating more food and drinking wine and beer etc. Your baby is not quite old enough yet to indulge – but we would strongly recommend against stuffing their faces anyway! When bringing up baby it needs a lot of thought about how to go about it, and basically their diet is most important. Plenty of fresh food, not ready made junk meals, lots of drinks and if you can manage it then organic food is by far the best, although we do appreciate that is costs 3 times as much as the normal food does. It is grown in such a way, and is packed with goodness that is why we advocate it so much.

If we could we all need to eat that way, but it is not very practical, so babies and toddlers first.

Why not encourage your toddler to help you in the spring and summer months to grow their own vegetables in a little area of the garden that they can call their own. That way they get so much pleasure out of it, and of course they will enjoy things more when they are eating their own home grown produce.

This is something we all can do – it works out quite cheap, and is packed full of goodness at the same time. Can’t be a bad thing can it?

Now that the weather is turning a lot colder, we all have to start to make changes in our dietery requirements. Make sure that your baby/toddler is getting enough of the right nutrionents. If you are not sure what is the right amount, ask your midwife, nurse, GP or go online and do a bit of research. There are millions of sites that will offer you free advice for nearly everything to do with baby and their needs.

Make sure if they are eating solids that they get plenty of fruit and vegetables. Yes we know they don’t usually like vegetables, but do your best.

Try not to let them snack on junk food, crisps, chocolate and other such products.

Make sure that both you and your family are getting the right sort of diet. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune either, if you are careful. Look for special offers in the supermarkets. Buy fruit and veg that is in season.

Tinned goods are fine as well, or frozen it doesn’t matter how you consume it just as long as you do.

We are the first to admit that Fish and Chips or Kentucky Fried Chicken taste great! However, they really are not that good for you or your family, so try to resist the temptation if you can.

If you have a baby on milk – then make sure that they get fruit juice to drink and water. Don’t buy the cheapest unknown brands available either, try to go for the top brands, this should ensure that baby is getting enough of their daily RDA of goodness.

We would like to take a moment to discuss your babies Nutrition. As the economy is so bad at the moment everyone is making cuts and we are as well, it is really necessary in this day and age.

However, food is the one area that we urge you to be careful in. Please try to make sure that you and your little one are getting enough vitamins and minerals, in babies case they only have those early years once, and this is the one and only chance you get to make sure that they are eating right. Stint in other ways – but not when it comes to their meals. Buy branded food, make sure they are getting everything they need to develop strong bones and teeth and grow beautifully. They are like a flower – they need lots of love and attention and nurturing and vitamins and minerals to stay in good health.

If you are concerned about any health issues or have nay queries, then you should get in touch with your GP or nurse and make sure that you get everything sorted out.

We can take vitamin supplements to make sure we are getting enough of everything, but this is not really practical for baby.

Organic food is the best if you can afford it.

We don’t want you to bankrupt yourselves, just make sure that your little one is going to grow up big and strong that’s all we want!
