When you are expecting and you have to go out and make that big purchase of a cot for baby the difficult decision really comes and hits you. Where do you place it in the nursery.

The decision is yours – but near a window is a no no in our opinion, not in line with the door leading straight into the nursery room but preferably behind any doors so baby is not in the line for a draught.

Windows are dangerous as baby gets older and older they can open a window in the summer months on their own unattended and this would lead to disaster.

Every decision that you make about baby is entirely upto you – we just give advice and hope that for some of our customers they find this a useful service and the best bit is it doesn’t cost you anything to just read a blog.

We do not advertise furniture but we can get anything you like for baby. Pram, buggies, cots anything in this line.

So why not use our good free advice – you might just be glad that you did?

Advice for parents to be. You are going to need to make a few large purchases in the coming months during the pregnancy and a cot is one of them!

Colours and styles are purely a personal choice and the the features that come with each one will also have a bearing on the cost of the cot.

Again this is dependant on your personal circumstances .

The thing we are trying to say is make sure even if it just someones own that you buy a brand new one, not second hand unless it is from a family member.

Where you decide to put it in the babies nursery is paramount. We strongly advise next to any window for a whole host of reasons.

The sun will come through the window and wake baby up.

The sun will shine on the cot and make baby too hot!

If you live in an old house the window might not be safe ( we are not suggesting it isn’t – just it might be ) andd therefore an accident is just waiting to happen.

As baby grows and develops they are filled with curiousity about the world around them, and trying to open a window could seem like good fun to them.

We have heard of tragic cases where babies open windows and fall out and die – and that is the last things anyone would want to happen.

Put the cot in the shade towards the back or side of the room never at the front or on top of a radiator either.

You need baby to stay cool but comfortable at all times.

Preferably in the shade as much as possible in the summer months also.

Although we do not actually sell babies cots at the moment, we still like to give advice to expecting mums and dads to be – maybe you are unlucky and do not have a lot of people to turn to, we all need as much advice as possible in life, and this is what we try to do – help you out!

When you first find out you are expecting everyone re-acts differently. Eventually the time will come when you will have to go and purchase the necessary equipment that your new addition will require.

Try to think very carefully about which room in the home you have you want to be babies nursery. We do not advice a sunny warm/hot room, you really need one proably at the back of the property, not near the road and traffic all the time and a shady room.

When making the large purchase of a cot for your new addition make sure you get the very best one that you can afford. Make sure the sides come down and nowadays a lot of cots have a teething ring or toy aids on the sides. Look at the latches and get a shop assistant to show you exactly how it works – make sure you are absolutely happy with the brand and style, you will find you will be spoilt for choice on the market, the problem will probably be how to afford it not which one you like.

We all understand that you need to be young to have children, but the balance in life seems to be all wrong. When you are young most of us are struggling – and when we get older, if we are lucky things get a bit better. By then we are not interested in nor can we biologically have children. It all seems round the wrong way but there you are.

We have spoken about the Nursery Room. Where to position babies cot, colours and light and heat. Now we would like to turn our attention to the cot its self. We would not recommend putting a pillow in babies cot until they are at least 1 year old. The obvious reason would be suffocation. Up until this age they are not capable of moving very well, and they can lay on their face and not be able to move the pillow out of the way.

Another reason is their spine should be kept on a level. Doctors do not advise any adult to be sleeping on more than 1 pillow all their lives. This is the best position for the back and the head.

If you are purchasing a quilt then you should buy a 10 – 12 tog rating for the cot. Anything less and baby will be too cold, higher and they can get too hot. It is a balancing act we are afraid.

You can always go with blankets. Some new parents still prefer to go this way. However, this will cause a lot more work, washing and expense, but it is a personal choice.

The next time we chat we would like to talk to you about Baby Clothes
