Advice for New Mums
Once you have found out you are expecting, and the first few months have passed. As you progress in your pregnancy hopefully you will start to experience the feeling that you are blooming with good health. At this stage you can start to concentrate on the huge task ahead of you – preparing for the arrival of this special little bundle.
Once you have reached the six months stage we would advise that you start buying everything that you need for your little one.
We do understand how expensive everything is, and if you are choosy about your purchases you can try to keep the cost to a minimum. The first time is the most expensive – obviously. If you have more children later on you will have a head’s up so to speak in every way.
We have already covered the ground in clothing in previous chapters with regards to the quantities that we consider you will need of the basic requirements in bedding and clothing.
As regards equipment, we think it is pretty obvious, you will need one of everything to start with. We would advise not to be talked into every little thing (even though the sales assistant in the shops with try). Just sit down at home and make a sensible list between the two of you as to what you consider you are going to really need.
Then go out and purchase only those items. Try not to buy anything that is not on the list.
If at a later date you feel you really need some of the items that you had seen earlier, then you can always buy them at a later date.
With the cost of everything nowadays, and it probably always was very expensive years ago, you can always add more, but you will find the cost can spiral out of control quite quickly.
Years ago there was not the amount of items on sale for babies.
Now the market is endless. Unfortuantely the purse is not.

We would like to talk to you today on Nutrition. For the first few months you will obviously be giving your new baby milk. However around the 4 – 5 months area ( every baby is slightly different ) you will need to start introducing solids. Your baby will begin teething around now, so you can give them Farley Biscuits or something equivalent for them to suck and chew on to help get those first toothy pegs through… and give you a bit of peace from the crying and sleepless nights.
Now is also the time to try solids. Start slowly at first. Most of the major brands have a fantastic selection try Cow and Gate or Heinz they are the best ones out there. A lot of new mothers like to make their own. Fine, cook whatever takes your fancy, blend it down to a fine pasty liquid ( strain out any bits to start with – then leave them in as baby adapts ) and they will be getting nothing but the purest and finest of healthy foods.
Most of the major brands pack all kinds of vitamins in them so you don’t have to worry on that score.
Make sure you include fruit in their diet. Either tiny pieces of actual fruit or fruit juices to drink.
Our next topic will be Baby Clothes, Baby Bedding, Baby Gowns and Baby Gift Sets.
Advice for New Mums
We would like to take this opportunity to talk to you about something that is in the press at the moment. The subject unfortunately is the Measles. It goes without saying that you will be seeing your Doctor and Nurse quite often for the first few years of your little one’s life.. Obviously you will be kept informed when it is time for them to have their jabs. The rise in childrens illness is very important.
We cannot stress enough that all new mums and dads should have their children immunised at the correct stage in their lives. If you are not comfortable with having the MMR jab – then obviously you should talk this over with your GP. However, it is entirely your decision, but we strongly advise that you have your child vaccinated - perhaps you would prefer to do it singly with regard to measles, mumps and rubella but you really should have the jabs.
The last thing any parent wants to see is their child suffering, and some of these illnesses can be very nasty. Not every child takes them lightly. It is especially important for a baby – it would be no joke if a child under 1 year caught any of these illnesses.
We hope you have found this advice helpful – always ask your GP if you are worried or concerned about anything to do with the health of your baby.
In our next chapter we will be talking to you about Baby Clothes.
Advice for New Mums
Teething is the subject we would like to talk to you about. These are very difficult times for both you and baby. Baby will start teething at around the 6 month time. They will be grouchy and touchy for up to two months while they are cutting a milk tooth. The gums will become red and swollen and your baby will probably have a slightly raised temperature as well. This is nothing to be concerned about, it is all part of the teething process. It can take up to 3 years before your little one has all of its 20 pearly white milk teeth. So as you can tell you are in for the long haul.
You can rub products on babies gums to try and help them, or give them a liquid pain killer like Calpol etc. there are quite a few brands on the market, this should help them for a few days just to get over the really bad few days.
Things should calm down after 2 -3 days. Always seek medical advice if you have any serious concerns about the health of your baby.
We hope you find this article of use.
