Advice for New Parents

When you are expecting your first child we are sure you are flooded with advice from all family members and friends on how to cope with everything from the birth to the first few months etc.

Like most things in life we all handle and experience everything differently, so there is no right or wrong way to do anything just your way.

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself during your pregnancy, labour and afterwards to be perfect! This is a huge experience for both of you and you are going to feel totally different about it afterwards than you think you will.

Don’t bother to read the celebrity magazines and try and lose the weight in a few weeks, it may take anything upto a year but it doesn’t matter. The only things that matter are that baby is happy and healthy, you are happy and healthy and your partner is happy as well.

All the rest will fall into place in time – just as it is supposed to do.

Make sure you look after your self after the birth, you will feel tired for the first few weeks, so expect that.

Just make sure that the your little one is well looked after and you – you two are the most important people right now. Get any mums and sisters or other family member s to rally round as much as possible.

Your husband or partner can pick up the food shopping and pitch in with some household chores for awhile, it won’t have to be for long – just a few weeks until you get back on your feet.

There are many ways other people can help out and cope – especially if you have older more grown up children they can pitch in as well.

Try to make life as easy for yourself as possible.
