Advice for Mums and Dads
This is just a small article on how to look after your baby/toddlers through the summer weather, particularly when the weather really warms up.
Like most things in life, it really just comes down to plain old common sense, but in the busy hectic world that we live in, trying to juggle everything is mind boggling, so that is what we are here for:
1. When out and about all keep baby/toddler in the shade, whether you are travelling in a car or pushing them in their buggy, or walking about. In the car make sure they don’t have the sun directly on the top of their head, or directly on the back of their necks. Put up a blind on the window where they sit.
When they are in their buggies, use the parasol and ALWAYS keep a sunhat on them, and suncream. Usually more like a sunblock.
If you go and sit in the park or anywhere else, make sure the area is shady, not directly in the sun.
If they seem unwell cool them down with water and fans and give them lots of drink and come home.
Make sure you have tons of fluids around, predominately water either on its own or water based cordial squash.
You can never get too much liquid in the summer months.
Keep food light. Don’t give them large or heavy meals.
Try your best to keep the house as cool as possible, keep windows shut first thing in the morning, then open them later on.
Keep curtains drawn or blinds down when the sun is at its strongest between 11am and 4pm.
It is very difficult during the nighttime to keep cool, but just do your best.
Unfortunately our knowledge only goes so far – and enjoy the summer, play with them on the beach, sunshine is great for the health as it contains Vitamin d.
Never go out anywhere in the summer without some bite or sting cream or spray on you..
Have a safe and happy Summer!
